School Council Representatives

After half term, to promote the fundamental British value of Democracy and to support our School Values, we will be establishing a School Council.

In order to prepare for this, this half term’s homework will involve preparing a ‘candidate profile’ for any child wishing to be part of the School Council. This means that we wish every child to prepare a personal fact file, outlining why they would be a good student council member and how they will help other children and support the school.

The candidate profile must include:

  • Your strengths
  • Ideas for how you would like to improve the school
  • Why should your friends vote for you

This homework is for all children. However, for those who are very keen to put themselves forward for a place on the School Council, in addition to completing the homework, you must practise presenting your profile to the class.

One pupil from each class will be elected by the children in their class.

This year’s school council members will remain the same until July. After this year, we will follow the same pattern and have elections twice a year, so School Council members serve 3 half terms.

Reception – Use the sheet provided to write your profile.

Key Stage 1 – Use the back of this sheet or a blank sheet to write your profile.

If it is possible, to support your child in understanding what a School Council does, log on to CBBC Newsround and read the information together:

Have a safe and enjoyable half term.
